New attack against the North Peruvian Pipeline

PETROPERU informs that, once again, the North Branch Pipeline (ORN) has been subject to a criminal act that has caused an oil spill at Km 237, located in the district of Manseriche, Datem del Marañón province, Loreto region, 35 kilometers away of the community of Mayuriaga.

The incident was detected yesterday June 18 at 1:45 pm by personnel who patrolled the area. PETROPERU immediately activated its Contingency Plan, proceeding to close the valve and moving personnel, tools and equipment to the area.

Regrettably, authorities and residents of the native Progreso community have not allowed the entry of the personnel sent for the containment work, for which the immediate intervention of the National Police and the Public Ministry has been requested, since it is an attack against the infrastructure of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP) that is considered a national critical asset.

It is important to point out that the pumping of crude oil through the ORN, was scheduled to stop, from 15:40 hours on June 15 of this year. In addition, barriers are being placed preventatively to contain the possible flow of hydrocarbons to the Saramiriza creek.

Both the Agency for Evaluation and Environmental Enforcement (OEFA) and the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining (OSINERGMIN) have been notified.

PETROPERU will continue informing about the evolution of the situation and invokes the inhabitants to allow the entrance to the contingency zone for the corresponding actions with the purpose of safeguarding the environment and the neighboring communities.
