New attack against the North Peruvian Oil Pipeline in the Amazonas region

New attack against the North Peruvian Oil Pipeline in the Amazonas region

Petroperú reports that on February 8, a new attack occurred against the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP) at kilometer 376 of Section II, near the community of Numpatkain, district of Santa María de Nieva, province of Condorcanqui, Amazonas region.

The cut to the pipeline was an intentional act carried out by third parties using a mechanical tool, which constitutes a crime that will be reported to the competent authorities.

Immediately after the attack was reported, the company activated the contingency plan, mobilizing specialized personnel and equipment to carry out first response work. The actions carried out include the placement of a bolted clamp, the installation of containment barriers and the closing of valves at kilometers 406 and 371 of Section II to mitigate possible impacts.

Petroperú has reported this act of vandalism to the corresponding entities, such as the Energy and Mining Investment Supervisory Agency (Osinergmin), the Environmental Assessment and Oversight Agency (OEFA) and the General Directorate of Hydrocarbons of the Ministry of Energy and Mines.

The company also calls on the relevant authorities to reinforce the security of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), in order to guarantee the normal development of hydrocarbon transportation operations.

Petroperú reaffirms its commitment to the protection of the environment and the security of neighboring communities, committing to report in a timely manner on the progress of mitigation efforts and investigations related to this attack.
