Modern loading dock begins operating in the New Talara Refinery

The opening of the Loading Dock MU2 of the New Refinery of Talara was taken place today, March 11th. The ceremony had the presence of the Board director of PETROPERU, German Velasquez Salazar; Mayor of the province of Talara, Jose Bolo Bancayan; and Regional Counsellor, Grecia Arriola and other authorities.

This new loading dock will be used to receive dry cargo, meaning watercraft will be unloading some some materials and equipment required by projects and due to its weight and volume, they cant be transported by other means of transportation than by sea. subsequently, it will work as a liquid loading dock and being able to fully assist the needs of the New Refinery.

During his speech, Velasquez Salazar pointed out the effort and talent of the peruvian engineers and workers, and about the new dock, the technical management and the experience of our main contractor, Tecnicas Reunidas of Spain. On the other hand, he ratified PETROPERU’s compromise with the development and progress of Talara by hiring much Talara workers as possible for this mega project. “We are fulfilling with what has been agreed with the Local Committee, therein, the 97% of the non qualified workers of this project are from Talara, exceeding extensively the 70 % requested by the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and in addition to the 36% of the qualified workers that are also from Talara”, he said.

The Dock MU2 has three components: an access dock, a platform for operations and the complementary estructures for the mooring and berthing of the watercraft, making a total surface of 3,300 m2 with the capacity of receiving until 950 tons of cargo. This dock had required different actions to be taken such as the study of the marine ground, structural and civil design, proceedings of permissions and licences according to what was requested by the national regulation, marine ground dredging, pier drilling and platform installation, etc.

Likewise, PETROPERU had introduced a new tank of 380 thousand barrels with the biggest capacity at the New Talara Refinery.
