Massive attendance to tribute to Blanca Varela at the PETROPERU auditorium

Before a large audience, tribute was paid to the Peruvian poet Blanca Varela ten years after her death. The event was held at the PETROPERU Cultural Center and was organized by the "Lima Gris" magazine under the sponsorship of the state oil company.

The tribute included a keynote address by the writer and journalist Rocío Silva Santisteban; Mexican artist and narrator Gabriela Olivo de Alba, Director of the Fondo de Cultura Económica; and the outstanding writer and journalist, Eloy Jáuregui. In addition, it had the presence of the son of the illustrious poet, Vicente de Szyszlo Varela; while the table was moderated by the writer Gabriel Rimachi Sialer.

Silva Santisteban highlighted the enormous contribution of Blanca Varela to Peruvian literature and thanked PETROPERU for its support in the dissemination of literature. In addition, the winner of the Cope Poetry Award highlighted the importance of this contest, which celebrates 40 years of promotion of literary creation in the country.

Likewise, there was a dance-theater show by the Primero Lo Nuestro Cultural Group, which delighted the audience. They presented their artistic proposal, which combines dance, music, literature and theater.

At the end of the event, two oil paintings with the image of Blanca Varela, works of artists Ricardo Terrones and Nico Cotrina, as well as a pole hand painted by the artist Mario Navarro were raffled among the attendees.

This way PETROPERU reaffirms its support for culture, paying homage to one of the most referents of Peruvian poetry. As well as promoting the narrative and poetry through the Cope 2019 Prize, which precisely convenes its XIX Biennial of Poetry and VII Biennial Novel.
