Iquitos Refinery celebrates 36 years supplying the peruvian jungle

The Iquitos Refinery, of PETROPERU, celebrated its 36th anniversary of operations in benefit of the Peruvian Orient. The commemorative acts were chaired by the Chairman of the Board of the state oil company, Eng. James Atkins Lerggios and the General Manager, Esteban Bertarelli Bustamante. The Regional Governor of Loreto, Fernando Meléndez Celis and the General Commander of Operations of the Amazon and Fifth Naval Zone, Vice Admiral Silvio Alva Villamón participated.

The day - in which the Sub Manager of Refining Selva, Eng Óscar Vera Gargurevich and Company officials were also present - began with a liturgical ceremony, after which a recognition was given to several workers of the plant for their 35 years of service.

During his participation, James Atkins Lerggios highlighted the strengthening of the processes and technologies that PETROPERU personnel use in the various activities carried out in this refinery, located in the heart of the jungle; which is exemplified by the inauguration of the new Tank 215 for gasoline (with geodesic roof and capacity of 40 thousand barrels), the waterproofing of the sealed area of Tanks 6 and 7, and the delivery of the double-hulled barges "Río Yarapa" and "Rio Putumayo".

"The effort and commitment of each of the workers has allowed the strengthening of the Company, which continues its growth process, with the improvement of its infrastructure, which includes the construction of the New Talara Refinery and the modernization of the North Peruvian Pipeline" , he added, emphasizing that these actions will be replicated in the Iquitos Refinery, which, he said, serves and will continue to serve the populations settled throughout the Peruvian jungle.

In this sense, the high official highlighted the significant presence of PETROPERU in the development of the region, "not only bringing power to all corners of this vast Amazon but also working in permanent alliance with neighboring communities, protecting - above all - the environment," he said.
