Iquitos artisans trained by PETROPERU show their products
As part of the celebrations for the 155th anniversary of the founding of the Fluvial Port of Iquitos, PETROPERU had an active presence at the "Native Amazon Art Fair", in which artisans -mostly women- were able to showcase and sell textiles, carved and fiber fabrics, highlighting the use of vegetable fiber in its manufacture.
Participating in the activity were representatives of the "Independencia" community, located on the banks of the Amazon River, near the Iquitos Refinery. The artisans agreed to thank PETROPERU for this opportunity, because the state oil company successfully conducted a training workshop in the management of the fabric in chambira, a medicinal plant that, in addition to its healing properties, has a fiber that can be extracted from its leaves that is used in crafts work; hammocks, dresses, handbags, strings, ropes, mats, and nets, among others. All these products were showcased at the fair.
The visitors highlighted the high quality of the products offered, all of them useful and decorative, made entirely by hand with raw material made from natural products obtained under the ancestral techniques of the jungle of our country.
The objective of this fair was to celebrate the so-called festival of interculturality, and that tourists, as well as the local population, can better understand the cultures and crafts of the Amazonian peoples.
It should be noted that PETROPERU, as part of its Corporate Social Management, develops an important capacity building work with the diverse communities neighboring its operations; betting to create alliances with these sectors strengthening and promoting their capacities for the benefit of the improvement of their living conditions.
