Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of oily stains in the Pastaza river

In relation to the presence of oily spots in the Pastaza River, near Km. 12 of the North Branch Pipeline (ORN), near the district of Andoas, Datem del Marañón province, Loreto region, PETROPERU informs the public that:

  1. Upon becoming aware of the presence of these oily spots on the Pastaza River, PETROPERU immediately activated its Contingency Plan, displacing several teams of specialists to the area by air, land and river; likewise, in a preventive manner, the pumping of the North Branch Pipeline (ORN) was suspended.
  2. From that point onwards and to date, the Company has carried out inspections by means of air, land and river patrols and internal tests of the Pipeline with specialized companies.
  3. In these preliminary tests, no signs of damage or pressure loss have been identified. Likewise, the results of the internal inspection carried out by Rosen, a German company specializing in pipeline maintenance, conclude that there are no corrosion problems in the infrastructure at the sub fluvial junction of the ORN with the Pastaza River.
  4. It should be noted that in the recent overflights to the area it has been observed that oily spots have disappeared.
  5. PETROPERU will continue with the investigations carrying out bathymetric studies with 3D technology to determine the presence of microcracks in the pipeline due to the exceptional flood of the Pastaza River. These studies will be carried out by a specialized company from Costa Rica whose technicians are arriving today in Lima.
  6. PETROPERU is in permanent coordination with the corresponding agencies, which already have technicians in the area to carry out the corresponding evaluations. Likewise, PETROPERU has been permanently informing the progress of the investigations to the community.

PETROPERÚ will continue to report the results of the activities aimed at determining the origin of the event and take the necessary actions to safeguard the safety of the surrounding communities and the protection of the environment.
