Ilo fishermen participate in a project to make pota squid burgers

Using pota squid as a raw material, fishermen from Ilo were trained in the management and processing of this marine mollusk, in the framework of a workshop that Petroperu organized in that port in the south of the country. The session was carried out in partnership with the Instituto Tecnológico Pesquero CITE Ilo; the fishermen's guild SUPABCPI – Ilo and the Regional Government of Moquegua.

The workshop allowed the attendees to participate actively in the trials and technical tests for the processing of pota squid hamburgers, enriched with nutrients, seeking to obtain a product of the highest quality, which would allow its commercialization.

In the aforementioned workshop it was also possible to learn about the experiences of students of the National University of Moquegua, who have been validating the formulas for the preparation of five types of burgers made of pota squid and other marine inputs of the area, such as anchovy, mackerel and horse mackerel, among other foods rich in nutrients such as quinoa.

It should be noted that the staff of the National Program for Innovation in Fisheries and Aquaculture – PNIPA evaluated the progress of the development of this project that seeks to increase the productivity and profitability of artisanal fishermen with the participation of their wives and children; ensuring the sustainability of the water resource of the area.

Petroperú thus reaffirms its commitment to artisanal fishermen, who are one of the pillars of the development of the province of Ilo, always within the framework of the Social Management Policy of the company that has been building its new fuel sales terminal, which will supply gasoline and diesel to the regions of Moquegua and Tacna.
