Gas connections will be increased in the south of the country under the supervision of Petroperú
Petroperú will assume the supervision of the works to expand natural gas networks in the regions of Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna, thus allowing the population in the south of the country to meet the demand for this clean and economical fuel. These works will be financed and executed by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), through the Bonogas and Con Punche Perú programs.
For this, the Executive has allocated a budget of 170 million soles that will allow - in the first stage - the construction of 300 km of network and will increase new residential connections in these regions by more than 20 thousand. The start is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024, after the contracting process of the companies that will be in charge of construction has been completed.
The announcement was made during the forum "Massification of Natural Gas in Tacna", where it was highlighted that, since 2020, Petroperú has played a crucial role as temporary administrator of the public natural gas service in southwestern Peru, ensuring its continuity with quality and efficiency.
Given the growth of natural gas production in the country and the policies of massification of natural gas in Peru, the demand for natural gas has been registering significant growth in recent years, with growth expectations in the coming years.
It should be noted that Petroperú currently operates the natural gas concession in Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna; It has built 395.45 km of networks that serve 12,846 homes, 9,186 located in Arequipa; 2,457 in Tacna; 693 in Ilo, and 510 in Moquegua.
To this end, the company has fulfilled various functions such as supply management, distribution, operation, maintenance, damage prevention, emergency response and the implementation of an educational program for proper use of this energy.
In this way, the safe, reliable, timely and accessible energy supply for all sectors of the country is decisive for the economic growth of these regions of southern Peru.
