Flexicoking unit operates and takes advantage of market opportunities

The New Talara Refinery (NRT), one of the most modern industrial complexes in Latin America, is operating normally, meeting the highest environmental and technical standards.

In response to recent comments made about its operation, Petroperú reaffirms that the NRT has been designed to process both light and heavy crude oil, adjusting its load according to market conditions to maximize profitability. Thus, when light crude oil is more profitable or has a similar price to heavy crude oil, its processing is a priority due to its lower technical complexity. However, when heavy crude oil has a significantly lower cost, the deep conversion unit (Flexicoking) allows this operational advantage to be taken advantage of efficiently.

Thanks to its advanced technology and high operational flexibility, the NRT can process a wide variety of crude oils, from the heaviest, such as Ecuadorian Napo, to the lightest, such as WTI. The choice of crude oil responds strictly to profitability criteria, allowing the refinery to adjust to market fluctuations and optimize its income.

With 16 processing units and five packages of auxiliary units and complementary services, NRT guarantees the production of cleaner fuels, contributing to improving air quality in Peru and reinforcing its commitment to caring for the environment.
