Fish farm project promoted by PETROPERÚ in Santa Clara, Iquitos, moves forward
Refinery Iquitos of PETROPERU executes the Fish Farm Pilot Project in Zone II of Santa Clara, with the purpose of promoting a sustainable productive activity in its neighboring communities and as part of its social responsibility activities.
The progress of the project was confirmed through a technical inspection by the National Fisheries Development Fund (FONDEPES), a specialized entity that verified compliance with the technical standards required for this type of productive activity.
The project includes fish work in three (3) natural pools in which 8,000 fingerlings of native species such as gamitana and boquichico have been planted; fish in great demand in the region.
The beneficiaries receive technical training regarding the cleaning, adaptation, fertilization of the ponds and feeding of the fish; at the same time, they participate with the workforce in the development of the works of this productive project.
It is planned to benefit 200 local inhabitants who will have access to a new profitable and sustainable activity. The success that is expected to be achieved with this project will be the model to follow in order to replicate it in other communities neighboring the operations of the Company.
In this way, PETROPERU reaffirms its commitment to the neighboring communities of the Iquitos Refinery, promoting activities that generate economic benefits for the population through the production of fish that contribute to a healthy diet in the Amazon.
