First systems of the New Talara Refinery begin commissioning

PETROPERÚ started up the Capture, Desalination and Sea Water Treatment Plant, thus marking an important milestone in the gradual start-up of the New Talara Refinery.

The start of activity of said plant will allow 46,500 m3/h of seawater to be treated through a reverse osmosis process for its purification and subsequent use in the operation of the firefighting system, in the steam generation boilers and in the cooling system, necessary for the start-up and operation of the Process Units of the new refinery complex.

It is important to mention that, subsequently, the water used in the processes and that has had contact with hydrocarbons, will be treated in the Industrial Effluent Treatment Unit, which has a capacity of 400 m3/h, complying with the maximum permitted limits required by the Ministry of the Environment; to finally return to the sea through the submarine outfall without generating environmental damage.

New Talara Refinery

To date, the construction of the New Talara Refinery registers an integral progress of 96.54%.

During its execution, it has contributed to the social and economic development of the country and especially the Piura region and the city of Talara, generating about 18 thousand temporary jobs, exceeding the percentage of hiring of unskilled local labor ( maintaining 89% worker participation) while for local skilled labor 30%.

The New Talara Refinery will be one of the most modern refineries on the southern Pacific coast and will consist mainly of 16 Process Units and 5 Auxiliary Unit packages. It will be in accordance with the new demands of the international energy market, producing cleaner fuels that ensure the preservation of the air and the health of all Peruvians.
