Fabric in aguaje fiber: innovation for production

For several weeks, the residents of the community "Santa Clara Zone I", participated in the workshop "Crafts with Vegetable Fiber of Aguaje", (an abundant palm tree in the Amazon). The fabric with aguaje fiber is little known in crafts, however, thanks to the technique achieved by Prof. Horacio Tanchiva, it is becoming possible to disseminate it in the region. The methodology includes sustainable harvest, drying and weaving with the fiber, to obtain a variety of very attractive utilitarian products.

"We are grateful for the training that Petroperu provides us, we are taking advantage of a fiber that I have never imagined that we are going to use, before we used to throw away the fiber of aguaje, today I am producing baskets, fans, bread boxes, which I will be able to sell and support in the economy of my home," says Claudia Chota Clavinto, a resident of the Santa Clara Zone I community of the Amazon River.

It should be noted that this activity is part of the Social Responsibility program of Petroperu Selva Refinery, which seeks to strengthen the capacity of the inhabitants to generate economic options based on the products and potential of the area.
