Drill for emergency response to oil spill

Petroperú, at the request of the Iquitos Harbor Master's Office, carried out an oil spill exercise at the Iquitos Refinery, on the banks of the Amazon River, in an activity that strengthens the response, mitigation, recovery and remediation policies of the areas that could be affected, in the event of a contingency of this type.

The exercise began with the alert of the incident, due to a spill produced during a crude oil unloading operation at Dock 1, affecting an area of approximately 100 square meters. The "Iquitos Refinery Contingency Plan" was immediately put into action, initiating the deployment of brigades and functional equipment for these cases.

The practice also included the laying of containment barriers, movement of river and land vehicles, allowing the level of response of each of the brigades to be measured.

The evaluation of the exercise included the participation of members of the Harbor Master's Office, American Coast Guard and specialists from the companies Lamor and Clean Pacific.

The development of these drills contributes to keeping the staff ready to efficiently respond to contingencies in the areas of influence of the company's industrial operations with optimal response times.
