Crude leak has been contained and the Uchichiangos gorge is clean

After a crude leak was reported -in an action caused by third parties- in the Uchichiangos Gorge, 364+990 Km – Stretch II of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), district of Nieva, province of Condorcanqui, Amazonas region, we informed that the area is now clean, without any trace of crude (the attached photo), which was contained thanks to the intervention of specialized personnel from PETROPERU and specialized companies, who controlled the situation with the support of the local population hired to that end, without damage to the water sources. On that subject, the semicircular containment dike of sacks of dirt that allowed the leak elimination works to be carried out (1,256 sacks) has been removed.

Work in the area is being done by 125 people (including PETROPERU personnel) who carry out activities of transporting the crude in tanks, recovering emulsified oil, collecting the soil and vegetation impregnated with hydrocarbon. To date, a total of 910 barrels of emulsified crude have been recovered; 370 barrels have been transported in tanks; and 4,217 sacks (soil, brush, others) of crude-impregnated material have been recovered.

On a different note, OEFA personnel have carried out an inspection of point “0” and of the temporary storage and dispatch area of the recovered oil, and have issued a favorable opinion of the progress made. A walk-through of the Uchichiangos Gorge, in order to take water samples on the same places as on the previous visit, is pending.

At the same time, PETROPERU is having permanent meetings with the local authorities and the apus of the Uchichiangos, Tayuntza and Tunduza communities, who are being kept informed of the Repair, Cleanup and Remediation Workplan underway.

On a different note, the report filed for aggravated damage to the ONP pipe before the Corporate Penal Provincial District Attorney of Condorcanqui, located in the Juan Velasco Alvarado Settlement, is still underway against the authors of the damage to the Pipeline.

In this manner, PETROPERU carried out all the necessary technical and operative activities that allowed to resolve this situation in the shortest time possible and in compliance with industry standards.
