Conservation of forest species used in artisanal products is guaranteed

In order to guarantee the conservation of the raw material of the artisans, Petroperú and the Regional Management of Forestry and Wildlife Development of the Regional Government of Loreto (GERFOR), developed the project "Biodiversity and Reforestation in the Santo Tomás and Independencia communities ”.

The project included awareness talks, a drawing and painting contest with the children, and the planting of five hectares with forest species such as chambira, huasaí and huayruro, required as inputs for their craft productions.

The development of this project not only contributes to the conservation of forest species, but in addition to strengthening the sustainability of the artisan activity, it makes it possible to maintain an important economic activity in the Independencia (Amazon River) and Santo Tomás (Nanay River) communities.

It should be noted that the works of the artisans are exhibited and valued at various local and national fairs, such as "Ruraq Maki" which was carried out successfully in Lima.
