Conchán Refinery receives Socio-Environmental Monitoring Committee

Members of the Socio-Environmental Participatory Monitoring Committee of the Conchán Refinery, made up of representatives of human settlements from Villa El Salvador and Lurín, visited the facilities of the Conchán Refinery in PETROPERÚ, where they learned more about the operational processes of the state oil company.

The committee, which works on a voluntary basis, was created seven years ago at the initiative of PETROPERÚ to keep the population informed about the environmental management carried out at the refinery. Its members are regularly trained in solid waste management, air and soil quality monitoring, among others.

During the visit, the Primary Distillation and Vacuum Distillation units and the Control Room were visited, from where each of the refinery's process units is monitored.

The tank yard -which has a storage capacity of up to 2.6 million barrels of fuel- was another of the stops made on this day, where the members of the committee highlighted the permanent dialogue between the company and the leaders of these committees, adjacent to the refinery.

It should be noted that - in previous days - the members of the Participatory Socio-Environmental Monitoring Committee have participated in multiple activities, ranging from cleaning days on the San Antonio beach in Lurín and the delivery of environmental education talks in schools in the area, where issues such as composting, segregation of solid waste and the preparation of various articles using recycled bags were addressed.

Conchán Refinery

Designed by the Fluor Corporation of Canada, the Conchán Refinery was built on 50 hectares of land located at kilometer 26.5 of the Panamericana Sur highway, in the district of Lurín, Lima region. It was inaugurated by Conchán Chevron of California in 1961 and, in 1973, the state oil company took over its administration.

The main function of the Conchán Refinery is to process, refine and store products such as gasoline, diesel for engines, solvents, diesel, industrial oils and export quality asphalts.
