As part of the commemorative activities for the 48th anniversary of Conchán Refinery, PETROPERÚ inaugurated the new Industrial Effluent Treatment Plant and a modern hydrocarbon laboratory in this strategic operation of the state company located in the district of Lurín, Lima.

In the opening ceremonies of the new facilities, carried out following the protocols established for the prevention and control of COVID-19, the President of the Board of PETROPERÚ, Eduardo Guevara Dodds; the General Manager, Carlos Barrientos Gonzales and the Conchán Refining Department Manager, Janet Zehnder Schuler.

Eduardo Guevara pointed out that the commissioning of the Industrial Effluent Treatment Plant demonstrates PETROPERÚ's responsible commitment to society, working in line with the protection and care of the environment, complying with the 21 quality parameters established in the maximum limits permissible for the discharge of effluents.

In this way, he indicated that the objective of this year is to convert the Conchán Refinery into a zero effluent plant. “With the commissioning of this treatment plant, Refinería Conchán will become the first refinery in the country to comply with all the maximum permissible limits for liquid effluents for the hydrocarbon subsector and, we will continue working to convert it into a zero effluent refiner with the installation of a modular osmosis plant, which will allow water to be reused”, he remarked.

On the same day, the new Conchán Refinery laboratory was inaugurated, one of the most modern in South America and the country. “One hundred thousand tests are carried out here a year, using state-of-the-art equipment that will allow us to efficiently provide services to PETRORED clients and to the country's terminals,” explained Carlos Barrientos.

In these modern facilities, approximately 19% of the national demand for fuels and asphalt will be certified, as well as the shipment of quality products abroad. It is important to note that this laboratory will guarantee the quality of the fuels dispatched, verifying compliance with quality specifications, in accordance with national and international technical standards.

“With this new and modern laboratory we are at the forefront of the hydrocarbon industry in Peru. Our highly qualified personnel have ideal environments to carry out their work in complete comfort and safety, since this modern infrastructure is fully air-conditioned and equipped with the latest technology,” said Carlos Barrientos.

For her part, Janet Zehnder, pointed out that the inauguration of both facilities marks an important milestone in the history of Refinería Conchán and PETROPERÚ. She highlighted the importance of the treatment plant to reduce the water footprint and the reuse of effluents to irrigate green areas, which contributes to responsible water consumption. Regarding the new laboratory, she pointed out that both its facilities and the state-of-the-art equipment provide the conditions to safely carry out the tests that guarantee the quality of the products that are dispatched to the market.

These innovation projects that are being implemented at the Conchán Refinery are part of the evolutionary process in which PETROPERÚ finds itself to be a modern, transparent and sustainable company that, with social and environmental responsibility, contributes to the development of the country, offering fuels from quality throughout the national territory.
