Community of Chapis forces again to paralyze remediation works in km 221 of the North Branch Oil Pipeline
PETROPERU addresses public opinion to report the following:
- Yesterday the authorities of the community of Chapis, in Loreto, held long meetings with representatives of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, in which they became important agreements.
- Despite this, today, August 11, the authorities of the mentioned community, represented by their Vice Apu, Mr. Samuel Chumpi Juikan, forced to suspend the remediation work in the environmental contingency of Km. 221 of the North Branch Pipeline (ORN); those that had restarted last Tuesday, August 6.
- PETROPERU regrets that the remediation works that take place for the direct benefit of the communities themselves and the environment are paralyzed. It is counterproductive for the community to claim for health services and, at the same time, stop the remediation tasks; which just increases the risk to health and the environment in the area.
- PETROPERU invokes the authorities and population of Chapis to put aside this measure of unnecessary force and return to the path of dialogue to solve their requirements. Likewise, it asks the community to stop blocking the remediation work, in order to complete them in the shortest possible time and restore the environment to its normal operating conditions.
