Cleanup continues in the Uchichiangos gorge riverbed

- The pipeline has been welded to seal the leak.
- The Public Ministry will initiate a preliminary investigation and the necessary activities to indict the authors of the damage to the Pipeline.
Cleanup continues in the Uchichiangos gorge riverbed

With regards to the crude leak caused by the action of third parties and detected on August 10 of 2016 in the Uchichiangos Gorge, 364+990 Km – Stretch II of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), district of Nieva, province of Condorcanqui, Amazonas region, we report the following progress:

  • the containment dikes have been reinforced to isolate the area of the crude leak, reduce the water level and facilitate the welding works.
  • The affected area of the duct is being repaired with the participation of the MCC Technology Company. The pipeline is being welded to seal the leak.
  • The recovered crude is being transported to Station 5 of the ONP.
  • Cleaning work continues in the riverbed of the Uchichiangos Gorge.

Additionally, PETROPERU has met with the local authorities and the apus of the Uchichiangos, Tayuntza and Tunduza communities, in order to inform them of the events and the Repair, Cleanup and Remediation Workplan underway.

It must be mentioned that representatives of the Peruvian National Police and the Provincial Prosecutor Specialized in Environmental Matters of Bagua have verified in situ the damage caused by third parties to the ONP pipe. In that regard, on August 12 of 2016 the report for aggravated damage to the ONP pipe was presented against whoever turns out to be responsible, before the Corporate Penal Provincial District Attorney of Condorcanqui, located in the Juan Velasco Alvarado Settlement.

PETROPERU is doing its maximum efforts to carry out the necessary technical and operative activities in order to resolve this situation in the shortest time possible and in compliance with industry standards.
