Clean-up work on the Las Capullanas beach in its final stretch

Petroperú reports that the clean-up work on Las Capullanas beach, located in the district of Lobitos, province of Talara (Piura), has reached a progress of more than 90%. These tasks, which began on December 21, have the participation of more than 350 specialists, operational personnel and residents, under the supervision of the Environmental Assessment and Oversight Agency (OEFA).

In addition, the tasks of monitoring the coast by means of boats remain active, with the objective of guaranteeing that both the sea and the coast of Las Capullanas and adjacent areas are free of hydrocarbons or remnants. In the next few days, the environmental remediation phase will begin, led by specialized companies, with the purpose of returning the area to its natural state, complying with the highest environmental standards.

In statements to the press, the general manager of Petroperú, Oscar Vera Gargurevich, highlighted the company's commitment and the speed of the actions undertaken. He pointed out that the oil has been collected almost entirely, as confirmed by the authorities and the media present. He also confirmed that the cleaning work will be completed in the next few days to make way for environmental remediation.

The general manager explained that the incident was caused by a leak detected in an underwater line used for loading hydrocarbons at the Talara Refinery, which was promptly controlled, minimizing its impact. He also stressed that Petroperú recognizes the seriousness of the incident and is working with experts to ensure responsible, effective and transparent actions.

He also pointed out that the company hopes that economic activities will gradually resume in the area, considering that the cleaning work has made significant progress.

Petroperú reaffirms its commitment to protecting the environment and will implement additional measures to prevent future incidents, in coordination with the competent authorities.

Supervision by authorities

Within the framework of these tasks, the general manager of Petroperú, Óscar Vera Gargurevich, informed the Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons, Iris Cárdenas Pino, about the progress in the clean-up work on the coast of Talara.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Talara Harbor Master's Office and the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining - Osinergmin, who supervise the actions implemented to address the situation.

Likewise, at Las Capullanas beach he received a visit from the Vice Minister of Environmental Management, Edgar Romero, along with other national authorities who verified the work within the framework of their functions.
