Chapis community blocks Station 5 of the North Peruvian Pipeline

Chapis community blocks Station 5 of the North Peruvian Pipeline

PETROPERU addresses the public opinion to report the following:

  1. Yesterday, December 5, approximately 100 residents of the community of Chapis, armed with spears and directed by Mr. Ismael Pérez Petsa, blocked access to Station 5 of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP).
  2. That facility is currently protected by the National Police; nevertheless, the necessary actions are being taken to evacuate an approximate 60 people, between Company personnel and contractors, in the face of tension and danger in the area.
  3. PETROPERU has maintained and maintains a permanent dialogue with the community of Chapis and its authorities, and has been implementing the commitments assumed with the community; as well as other social programs that are part of its business policy.
  4. However, in the face of these serious facts, PETROPERU requests the urgent intervention of the authorities to restore social order, safeguard the integrity of the Company's personnel and its contractors and safeguard the infrastructure of the Norperuano Pipeline, as it is a critical national asset.
  5. It is worth remembering that since November 27 the operation of the North Peruvian Pipeline has been suspended, affecting the national production of oil due to a sabotage carried out by a group of leaders of the community of Mayuriaga. Since that date, ten (10) days ago, they have prevented us from repairing the pipeline and the oil spill continues at Km. 193 of the North Branch pipeline, which poses a serious risk to the environment and the health of the nearby communities.
