Baertl: “Unscrupulous individuals with ignoble interests keep damaging the North Peruvian Pipeline”

The Chairman of PETROPERU, Augusto Baertl Montori, reported that out of 10 leaks registered in the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP) this year, seven were deliberately caused by unscrupulous people answering to ignoble interests: “There are political and economic interests behind these actions; the use the natives, use the communities to break the Pipeline on purpose”, he indicated. In that sense, he mentioned that this is not an accusation against the native communities, but rather against individuals were seeking to benefit from the situation.

In that sense, Baertl Montori insisted on the need of having necessary protection, such as drones and satellites, for safeguarding this infrastructure of national interest. “The support of law-enforcement agencies is also important, to protect de Pipeline the areas surrounding the Marañon”, he said as he explained that the oil leaks have been contained and the hydrocarbon contamination risk has been controlled. “It cannot be said that all the rivers in the Forest having contaminated by the recent events in the ONP”, he clarified.

Likewise, the high official manifested that the paralyzation of the Pipeline doesn’t only hurt PETROPERU, but also the oil companies who cannot transport its production and the regions because the oil canon that corresponds to them is being reduced.

On the other hand, Baertl reaffirmed that his work is to give value to the assets of the Company, amongst them the Pipeline. On that respect, he said that a company specializing in ducts will support this task and, additionally, everything necessary for its technological update.
