Authorities verified sabotage attempts to the North Peruvian Pipeline

Members of the National Police of Peru (PNP), accompanied by residents of the San Juan de Sasipahua and Boca del Sasipahua communities; as well as personnel from PETROPERU, they found attempts to sabotage the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), at kilometer 237 of Section I, in the province of Datem del Marañón.

As a preventive measure, PETROPERU stopped the crude pumping operation of Section I of the ONP.

The identification of the event was done through the company's patrol system, verifying four cuts of different depth but that have not produced spills.

In dialogue with the residents, the agents of the San Lorenzo police station collected important information that will allow them to continue with the corresponding complaints and investigations. Also, they urged the members of the communities to report to the authorities this type of incidents, that put their lives and the ecosystem at risk.

PETROPERU has started the inspection and repair work to restore the integrity of the pipeline and restart the pumping operation of Section I of the ONP. Likewise, the reports have been made to the competent authorities such as the Agency for Environmental Assessment and Control (OEFA) and the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin).

It is important to mention that ONP's operations are strategic for the oil activity in the Amazon, which benefits thousands of people generating direct and indirect work, as well as higher revenues from oil canon, thus contributing to the Internal Gross Domestic Product.
