Authorities confirm attack on the Pipeline in Loreto
- The Public Prosecutor Office called on the communities near the Pipeline to provide facilities for PETROPERU to carry out clean-up work
On October 26 of this year, personnel of the National Police of Peru (PNP), the OEFA and the Justice of the Peace of Maypuco, inspected the damaged pipe the day before at Kilometer 23 + 500 of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), located near the community of Nueva Esperanza, in Loreto, verifying a cut to the pipeline made with a saw. The area is fenced and with industrial containment barriers, after PETROPERU's specialized personnel placed a staple on the pipe to control the leak.
Subsequently, on October 29, personnel from the Provincial Criminal Prosecutor's Office of Loreto-Nauta, the PNP, the Defense Front of Maypuco, the Directorate of Environmental Health (Diresa) and Petroperu, as well as representatives of the Nueva Esperanza communities, San Pedro, San Francisco, San Antonio and Seis de Mayo, adjacent to the ONP, also found that the cut to the pipeline was caused by a serrated saw that produced a cut of 9.5 centimeters.
During this last verification, the authorities asked the representatives of the neighboring communities to the ONP to provide the necessary facilities to PETROPERU to carry out the cleaning and remediation work in the area.
Clearing Plan
It is important to point out that the recent launching and implementation of the Plan for Stripping and Road Rights and Early Warning, allows the neighboring communities of the ONP to access work opportunities and benefit from the Works for Tax system, where the basic condition to make it work is that there are no attacks against the ONP.
PETROPERU reiterates its rejection of the irresponsible attitude of people who, seeking immediate economic benefits, make the cuts to the North Peruvian Pipeline, patrimony of all Peruvians, which generates risks to the health of people and the environment.
