Artisanal fishermen are trained in on-board safety protocols
PETROPERU successfully closed the project called "Improvement of the extraction process of artisanal fishermen of Talara (Pariñas) through the adoption and application of knowledge of on-board safe fishing - safety", through which it contributed to improving the safety of seamen during their fishing operations.
Thanks to this action, 88 fishermen were trained and provided technical assistance in the implementation of protocols for "Risk Identification", "Safety on Board" and "First Aid on Board", thus allowing a 40% reduction in risks during fishing. fishing work and transfers at sea, and an improvement of 20% in the knowledge and execution of first aid. In addition, it was achieved that during the project period there were no work accidents in artisanal fishing activities in Talara.
Likewise, as part of this project, five boats were equipped with fishing tackle, navigation and safety equipment on board, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Additionally, PPE kits were also provided for the crew of six other smaller vessels.
It is worth highlighting the effort and commitment of the seafarers, who worked intensely to optimize safety standards in their fishing operations, which included its effective adaptation to training sessions carried out remotely, which -in addition- allowed for greater and better participation.
This initiative was implemented thanks to the strategic alliance established between PETROPERÚ, the National Program for Innovation in Fisheries and Aquaculture (PNIPA) of the Ministry of Production, the Puerto San Pedro Artisan Fishermen Guild, the Antenor Orrego Private University (UPAO) and the Management Engineering and Technology Services (MET PERÚ).
This contribution was made in parallel to two other initiatives on issues of entrepreneurship and implementation of the cold system, developed by the aforementioned institutional alliance for the benefit of artisanal fishing in Talara, which had a social investment of S/ 380,790.00, of which of which 20% was covered by PETROPERU, in its capacity as a collaborating entity. 80% of the remaining budget came from World Bank funds, through the PNIPA Competitive Fund.
PETROPERU's participation is part of its articulating role between the sectors of the State and the communities and populations in its area of influence, in order to reduce the existing social gaps and promote the progress of its interest groups. At the same time, this activity is part of the Company's Social Management Plan.
