Advance of the megaproject New Talara Refinery continues

The construction of the new Talara Refinery, the largest energy project being executed in the country, continues at a good pace. To date, it shows a progress of 43.4% and amongst the main activities that support this progress is the installation of 13,200 pilings, the pouring of 60,000 m³ of concrete, 22,000 tons of metallic structures placed and the installation of 26 process teams.

The current work crew is of approximately 3,088 people, with 90% of them being unqualified labor and 36% qualified labor from Talara. It’s important to highlight that the percentage of unqualified labor surpasses what was established in the Environmental Impact Study of the Talara Refinery Modernization Project-PMRT (minimum 70%).

There is a foreseen increment in the participation of personnel from the metal mechanic field as the structure, equipment and piping mounting works are done.

It is important to mention that PETROPERU demands that all its contractors strictly follow the current labor legislation, such as Law N° 29783 Workplace Health and Safety Law, in order to guarantee have proper work claim eight and the respect of the rights of the workers of the PMRT.

The new Talara Refinery will go into operation in the month of June 2019, as scheduled, and will have the capability to process 95 thousand barrels per day, through its modern units which will allow it to reduce the sulfur levels to as low as 50 parts per million in its fuels, such as diesel, gasolines and GLP, which means cleaner fuels that will guarantee the preservation of the air and the health of all Peruvians.
