A tenth attack is confirmed against the North Peruvian Pipeline

Yesterday, November 15, a crude leak was detected in the 24+880 Km of Stretch I of the North Peruvian Pipeline, located in the district of Urarinas, Loreto region, as consequence of a new action by third parties against this infrastructure.

As soon as the damage was located, the Contingency Plan was applied by PETROPERU personnel and by the specialized companies INMAC and LAMOR, were immediately repaired the duct by placing a staple to avoid the flow of oil in the ONP flotation canal. They also installed containment barriers to prevent the oil from expanding.

During the past weekend there was an alert for a possible crude leak, and as such, the OEFA informed, and the search begun for the leak point in the duct, which was identified and repaired yesterday.

As was previously informed, the operation of the ONP has been paralyzed as the month of February of this year. Since then, a total of 10 cuts to the duct -including this last one- have been inflicted on the pipe by the action of third parties. We demand that the pertinent authorities carry out the vigilance and intelligence actions to capture those responsible and punish them according to the law.

PETROPERU again calls out to the people were causing these breaks, to stop doing this, as they are causing damage to the environment in the beginning of the rain season, which increases the risk that it some areas the crude may overflow from the flotation canal.

PETROPERU will continue to make its maximum efforts to carry out the corresponding technical and operational actions to correct the events in the shortest time possible and in compliance with the industry standards. Additionally, it has made itself available to the competent regulatory authorities and the community in general in order to continue informing on the fact.
