A new oil leak in Loreto is ruled out

Given the alert of the presence of hydrocarbons that would be affecting communities in the Lagunas district, Alto Amazonas province in the Loreto region; Petroperú launched its Contingency Plan, displacing its own personnel and contractors to the area for field verification, without finding a new oil leak.

As part of the actions, a patrol was also carried out in the surrounding areas, finding no remains, nor impacts on the vegetation or water sources.

It is worth mentioning that, in this sector, which corresponds to km 104 of Section I of the ONP, on September 5, 2022, a contingency occurred, generated by intentional cuts to the pipeline executed by third parties. Since then, 15 containment barriers have been installed at 8 control points.

However, Petroperú proceeded to reinforce the barriers, as well as the placement of two additional barriers of 15 meters each to prevent the displacement of the contained crude oil.

For the monitoring of the containment instruments, Petroperú has a local company, which carries out this task with the support of personnel from the communities neighboring the contingency.

Finally, Petroperú specified that the blocking valves located at km 75 and km 159 of Section I remain closed. Likewise, Section I of the ONP has been paralyzed since February 13, 2022, to attend to the 13 contingencies registered in this area since January 2022.
