A new cycle of international Copé Dialogues talks begins

Petroperú and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organize a new edition of the "Copé International Dialogues" series of conversations, a successful day that seeks to disseminate the winning writers of the Copé Award literary contest locally and internationally as a benchmark for literary creation in the country.

The new conference will take place from this Friday, September 8, and will continue until October, with the cultural participation of countries such as the United States, Canada, and Brazil, through prominent literary exponents, as well as prestigious academic entities.

The objectives of these international Copé Dialogues aim -among others- at disseminating Peruvian literature abroad, promoting the reading and analysis of the authors awarded at the Copé Awards and bringing readers abroad closer to the Petroperú Virtual Library. The cycle is a virtual event that will be broadcast via the Facebook live of the Petroperú Cultural Center, as well as the digital platforms of the prominent participating cultural institutions. The moderation of the program will be in charge of the writer and teacher Ricardo Sumalavia.

The virtual presentations seek to initiate a dialogue on cross-cutting issues between the Copé Award-winning author and the guest writers from the host country of the event; as well as direct and stimulate the reading of the works published by the state oil company.

The cycle begins on Friday, September 8, from 11 a.m. (Lima) – 1 p.m. (Sao Paulo) with Brazil as the guest country and the participation of Jorge Valenzuela, Copé Essay Award winner for his work “Un mundo precario. Ensayo sobre la obra y la escritura de Franz Kafka”, the writers Ronaldo Costa Fernades, Juan Ferreira Fiorini and the institutional support of the Instituto Cervantes in the city of Sao Paulo.

The second date will be held on Friday, September 22 with the United States as the guest country and will be around the winning work of the 1992 Copé Short Story Award “María Nieves”, by Luis Nieto Degregori. The writers Santiago Vaquera-Vásquez, Americo Mendoza-Mori and Claudia Arteaga will participate, as well as the entities Harvard University and Scripps College.

The third date will have Canada as the guest country and will take place on Friday, October 20 with the participation of the poet Ana Varela, 1991 Copé Poetry Award for her work "Lo que no veo en visiones." Researchers Gloria Macher and Lady Rojas Benavente will participate, as well as the Concordia University of Canada.

International Copé Dialogues was established in 2020 in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru and its Peruvian diplomatic missions abroad. This activity responds to the cultural management of Petroperú to continue promoting literary creation, research and the Copé Award competition at a national and international level. In addition, to expose Peruvian writers in relation to contemporary Latin American narrative.
