8,500 people attended concert of the National Symphony Orchestra in Iquitos
Peru wants culture. This was demonstrated by the presence of 8,500 people at the Max Augustin stadium in Iquitos to listen to a concert by the National Symphony Orchestra, the country's first musical ensemble, which has been visiting this city for the first time for half a century.
The event, sponsored by PETROPERU as part of its decentralized cultural policy, attracted the attention of the local population who, despite a small drizzle, flocked to enjoy a first-class cultural show carrying small layers and umbrellas; those that finally there was no need to use.
The orchestra - directed by maestro Fernando Valcárcel - performed well-known works of the classical repertoire (such as The Bat by Johann Strauss II or Carmen by Bizet) but also themes that raised public enthusiasm, such as the famous “Contamanina” and a mix of Juaneco y su Combo, with the popular song " Ya se ha muerto mi abuela", among other Amazonian melodies; all under a high level stage production.
The Minister of Culture, Luis Jaime Castillo Butters, of Production, Rocío Barrios Alvarado and the Governor of Loreto Elisban Ochoa participated in the inauguration. This concert is part of a series of presentations that will be made by the different national casts of the Ministry of Culture on the occasion of the national bicentennial.
It should be noted that this is the first time that a symphony orchestra has appeared in this installation with a capacity for more than 8,000 people; which was specially adapted to guarantee the structural acoustic and lighting conditions that the country's first orchestra requires.
The sponsorship of this event is part of the PETROPERU Cultural Management Plan whose objective is to promote the production and access to culture, as well as intercultural citizenship, through the support and promotion of the various manifestations of national art and culture.
